Lights, camera, tela! The spotlight was on Filipino creativity at TelaHISTORIA: The Runway Story of Filipino Fabrics, a high-energy fashion extravaganza that lit up the Newport Performing Arts Theater at Resorts World Manila on August 1.

Hosted by the Fashion Designers Association of the Philippines (FDAP), this unforgettable night was all about celebrating what makes Filipino fashion truly fabulous — indigenous weaves, rich history, bold design, and unstoppable talent.
From the Spanish words tela (fabric) and historia (history), TelaHISTORIA brought together some of the country’s most fearless and fabulous designers. Their mission? To tell the story of the Filipino soul — one fierce, fabric-filled runway look at a time.

Scene-stealer alert! One of the show’s biggest wows came from a design featuring Tinnenun, the iconic handwoven textile of the Yakan tribe from Basilan, Mindanao. With its electric colors and sharp geometric patterns, Tinnenun brought serious drama to the runway — in the best way possible!
Paired with luxe Mikado and the dreamy elegance of Jusi, the look was a stunning mix of tradition and trend, showing off the power of Filipino craftsmanship with a modern, fashion-forward twist.
From fierce Filipinianas to contemporary couture, every look had the crowd cheering — and snapping pics like there was no tomorrow!

The night also sparkled with star power. Big names like designer Renee Salud, actor Cris Villanueva, actress Cai Cortez, TIEZA COO Mark Lapid, and Taytay, Rizal Mayor Allan De Leon were spotted in the front row, all showing love for local fashion.
Mayor De Leon proudly repped Taytay, the “Garments Capital of the Philippines,” and shared a message that had everyone inspired:

“This is a huge moment for Taytay. We’ve always been proud of our garment industry — and now we’re stepping into the spotlight in style!” - Mayor Allan De Leon
Taytay’s presence on the TelaHISTORIA stage proved that it’s more than a production hub — it’s a creative force to watch.
As the final model struck a pose and the music faded, one thing was clear: Filipino fashion is having its moment. And it’s bold, beautiful, and 100% Pinoy pride.
