GCash, the country’s leading mobile wallet, is ramping up its presence in Baguio City to further promote the City of Pines’ digital ecosystem, which is seen benefiting not just tourists but also residents and local businesses alike.
The fintech company has recently conducted a series of activation events in Baguio from late June to early July which aims to help both residents and tourists in the city learn more about the new and exciting features of GCash.
“We are enabling Baguio to become a more cashless city to help residents, especially the micro and small entrepreneurs thrive in the new normal. This is fueled by our goal to empower the unbanked and under-served communities with digital financial solutions. We will continue to expand in other regions across the country to help Filipinos have better and safer lives,” GCash President and CEO Martha Sazon said.
With the GCash app, tourists can now dine safely and conveniently at Baguio’s famous food stopovers such as Hill Station or Choco-late de Batirol, and grab great finds from ukay-ukay, thrift shops, and souvenir shops and pay for their transactions via the GCash QR code. With the Scan-To-Pay option of GCash, Filipinos can also experience safe visits and enjoy fun activities at Baguio’s famous tourist spots such as Wright Park, Burnham Park, Mines View Park, and Strawberry Farms in La Trinidad.
Likewise, locals can pay for their daily groceries and products at public markets using GCash. Users can also expand their budget with the GCredit feature which is a personal credit line on the GCash app. GCredit requires no down payments and can readily be used by customers who have a high enough GScore – which reflects how a user makes the most out of their GCash account.
Users can also pay for their next gadget or appliance using GCredit or shop now and pay later with GGives at SM City Baguio merchants like Digital Walker, Octagon, SM Appliance Center, Datablitz, Samsung, and Accent Hub. With GGives, users can pay for their purchases with up to 24 installments or “gives” spread over a maximum of 12 months.
Running out of cash in Baguio City will also be a thing of the past, as users no longer have to find an ATM to withdraw money. Cash-in and cash-out services are available in 550 GCash Pera Outlets through the city’s community-based stores and small businesses.
With GCash’s suite of financial services, Baguio City is one big step closer to establishing a digital ecosystem that promotes safe, seamless, and accessible transactions for all.
