President Marcos Visits Czech Republic - Meeting with the OFW's

Prague, Czech Republic – MARCH 17, 2024 – President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. visited Czech Republic and assured overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) of the government’s commitment to protecting and promoting their rights and welfare. The audience cheered with like showers of Philippine Flag waved to him and the First Lady Marie Louise "Liza" Araneta Marcos.

Marcos  hailed the OFWs for their skills, diligence, and talent, qualities that impress their foreign employers. He said  “Ang ganda ng inyong performance. Kinahahangaan kayo ng inyong mga kasama, at bukod pa sa paghanga, napamahal na sa inyo dahil masyado raw mabait ang Pinoy (Your performance is exceptional. Your colleagues admire you, and in addition to their admiration, you became endeared to them because they say that Filipinos are so kind),”

Marcos noted that the Czech Republic is raising the annual quota for Filipino workers to 10,300 starting this year Filipinos who are engaged in the processing industry, automotive, repairs of appliances, manufacturing, IT communications, real estate, health or wellness, and household service work. 

Czech Republic officials, President Petr Pavel, Prime Minister Petr Fiala, Senate President Miloš Vystrčil, and President of the Chamber of Deputies Markéta Pekarová Adamová welcomed the President, the First Lady and Philippine delegates with a very optimistic relationship. 

In his remarks, Marcos highlighted the strong relationship between the Philippines and the Czech Republic.

“The Czech Republic has found many, many parallels with the two countries that are built upon— well for the history, is the remarkable connections between the Czech Republic and the Philippines starting of course with, I think everyone is aware of the experience of our national hero, Dr. Jose Rizal here in Prague as he was mentored by his friend, Ferdinand Blumentritt,” Marcos said.

“The relationship between the Czech Republic and the Philippines, I believe from this point on, will not only continue but will grow stronger, and grow more robust, and this will be of course of mutual benefit to both our countries,” the President added as he emphasized the 50th anniversary of the diplomatic ties of the two countries.

Marcos invited the citizens of the Czech Republic to visit the Philippines and experience its tourist spots and Filipino hospitality, stressing that tourism is a possible area of cooperation for the two nations.

“We take pride in Filipino hospitality, and we take pride in our beautiful country. Hopefully, we will see more of your citizens coming to the Philippines. I can see that this is an area that will continue to increase for us. Come, visit the Philippines,” Marcos said.

Marcos said it was “very timely” for the two nations to discuss people-to-people exchanges such as student and scientific exchanges as well.  “Overall, I am confident the visit has strengthened the bond with these two countries and created opportunities for cooperation and prosperity, he added.  (Excerpts from PNA and Philippine Inquirer).
