GCash onboards about 300,000 sari-sari stores, market vendors, tricycle drivers to promote inclusion

Did you know that GCash is not just available as a payment option in online stores and major outlets? Some 300,000 community stores have already been onboarded in the GCash system, including sari-sari stores, market vendors and tricycle drivers.

By extending its offers and efforts to the community level, the Philippines’ dominant e-wallet platform has given over 240,000 sari-sari store owners access to its services as well as additional livelihood opportunities.

For instance, sari-sari store owners can earn up to P10,000 a month as a GCash Pera Outlet. They can offer cash in, cash out, bills payments, and fund transfers. Non-GCash users can also claim GCash Padala sent to them.

At the same time, GCash has onboarded 20,000 market vendors and 31,000 tricycle drivers through partnerships with wet markets and tricycle drivers associations. This makes transactions not only secure and safe but also eliminates the need to bring money and search for loose change.

“We continue to expand in other regions across the country. Through these efforts and our partnerships with local government units, we have made financial services available to more people. These channels are key for us to reach our vision of finance for all,” said Martha Sazon, GCash President and CEO.

GCash currently has over 60 million registered users, 5 million GCash merchant and social sellers, 232,000 cash in and cash out outlets, and 420 GLife merchants.

As market needs continue to change, GCash also continues to evolve its products to make Filipinos’ everyday lives better. The mobile wallet has a lot more lined up in the coming months to further its goal of financial inclusion.

This is in line with its parent company Globe’s commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly UN SDG No. 9, highlighting the roles of infrastructure and innovation as crucial drivers of economic growth and development.
